About Me-How I Can Relate To The Story Of David And The Giant

About Me and My Unique Testimony:

About Me

Welcome to my “About Me” page. I wasn’t sure how to write an “about me” page for a blog, but here goes.

So let’s get down to the heart of the matter about me. First of all, my name is Mike. I was born and raised in southeastern Missouri.

Down in what is called the “bootheel”. It was named this because of the shape that it resembles. Similar to a boot…heel.

I’m a husband and stepfather to one son. We currently live in Northeast Arkansas.

I am a Christian and life-long bible student. God has blessed me to be a part of an outreach ministry to a group of men primarily from the trucking industry. I too have a background in the industry and have now for over 35 years.

I’m going to do my best to share with you in the pages of this website, what it means to live a life like King David did. We will look at the giants in our lives, and how it is that we too, can become Giant Killers!

The Younger Years:

About Me

As a child, I grew up like most “normal” blue-collared family kids. I played baseball, ran track, played basketball, ran a paper-route, and I chased girls.

My dad wouldn’t let any of us boys play football after my oldest brother got severely hurt playing, what we called, “sand-lot” football. He ended up with a ruptured spleen. So, needless to say, NO football.

Life began to change early into my teenage years though. Growing up during the late 1960’s and early 70’s was a different time. Free love and free drugs was everywhere. Temptations too! You know what I mean!

We all thought we were cool. Everybody wanted to be cool! Cigarettes were just the beginning, sex and drugs not far behind.

Sex and Drugs and Rock-n-Roll:

About Me

One thing leads to another. Everybody’s working for the weekend. And we were all looking for love in all the wrong places.

Yes, one thing leads to another that’s for sure. Especially when it comes to sex and drugs and rock-n-roll.

If one beer felt good, six felt better. If one joint wasn’t enough, then maybe four would be. Girlfriend after girlfriend.

Let’s try this…let’s try that…Let’s try it all…And rock-n-roll never forgets!

Life was nothing more than one a great big party back then. Keg parties, cook-outs, float trips, rock concerts, and psychedelic trips.

If it wasn’t for the grace of God, we would’ve all been dead! Thank God for His Amazing Grace!

The Grace of God:

About Me

Life took a drastic turn and came crashing down at the ripe old age of 21. Yes at 21. I nearly “OD’ed”.

Some of my friends did. Some were in jail, some for life and some were dead.

Yes, I too nearly overdosed, I nearly “bought the farm” as they say. Death was at my door and I was scared. Scared of dying and going to hell.

But for the Grace of God!! The Amazing Grace of God. I cried out and He heard my cry. God have mercy? Forgive me I pray!

And, He did!

Giant Killer:

About Me

Just like the story in the Bible about David and Goliath. God used David to kill Goliath.

But it was God that killed the “Giant” in David’s life. And when I cried out in a drug and alcohol induced stupor, God killed the “Giants” in my life too.

We continually have giants come up in our lives. Just because I became a Christian that day doesn’t mean I got a free pass on the problems in life.

No, quite the contrary. It seems as though giants are constantly lurking all around us and trying to take us down even more so.

That’s been some thirty-plus years ago and there are yet many stories to tell. There will be giants in our lives until we get to heaven.

Giants of divorce, and giants of loneliness. Giants of depression and giants of sadness. Jobs will come and jobs will go. Money is here one minute and then it sprouts wings and flies away. Giants!

Friends will betray us and spouses will leave you. Loved ones will die and sickness may come. Oh, the Giants in our lives! Oh, how we need a Giant Killer!

In God We Trust:

About MeAlthough this is supposed to be “About Me”. It’s really not “About Me” at all. The greatest things I’ve learned through all of this life of mine is if you will keep your eyes on the Lord, put your trust in Him, He will be your Giant Killer!!

He’s promised He will never leave you nor forsake you! And, that’s a promise He’s never broken! (Hebrews 13:5)

John 14:1-3 is some of my rock solid, faith-building, long-anticipated, hope-building verses that I claim and stand on daily because Jesus Himself said:

1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.

2 In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

  1. Hi there Mike
It’s Sylvie from WA. Just thought to have a look at your site as I’m a Christian too. I like the way you get your message across. I’m hoping my brother [a lifer] might read them. [All the males in my family are or have been jailed]. He became a Christian before I did in his early teens when our family broke but then got into trouble . . . . . . Anyway, see you around WA. And press on with the good work.
    A sister in Christ, Sylvie

    1. Thank you Sylvie. I sure appreciate you taking a look at my site. It is a never-ending work in progress and I’m adding more things when I get time.

I have a lot I’m in the process of writing now, so we will have new articles soon.

I hope your brother can read some of these as they are from the Lord to my heart and I share them with whoever will read them. Many of these articles are real-life experiences.

  2. Hi, Mike!

Wow! What an amazing testimony. I’m a believer myself and just love hearing about how people came to God.

At that moment, when you cried out to God at the age of 21, did you feel his presence? I mean, I know he didn’t come right out and talk to you. How did you know God heard you?

    1. Thanks Barb. Well, yes, I felt His presence powerfully. It was as if I had been carrying around a huge building on my shoulders and it immediately fell off. That was all the guilt and shame taken away!! Amen?

  3. Bradley Boschma

    My good Christian brother,

Way to go on finding your path to freedom through Christ. Your site is an awesome testament that miracles do happen. Keep on trucking’. And one more thing, tell your wife to make a site too – and if she did already, interlink the two of them together. Words of wisdom.

    Brad Boschma

    1. Thanks Brad for the comment. And yes, no doubt, there is freedom in Christ!! John 8:36 In whom the Son sets free is free indeed!!

As far as my wife goes, thanks for the suggestion. We actually have been discussing a site for her too!!

      Blessings your way my brother!

      Mike
